Timber Trails Club
Sherman, CT
?-Circa 1979

Thanks to Joe May, we first heard this ski areas that operated in Sherman. Here are his details:

There is a large real estate sub division in the south part of Sherman. The name of the area was Timber Trails Club. It was quite elegant in its day and had a small ski hill, horse back riding, red clay tennis courts, and other niceties. One of its star residents was Durwood Kirby. He was the announcer and straight man for Gary Moore in the early days of TV. I can remember the one slope with lift equipment on the south side of the hill.

Tom has created a website on Timber Trails, which can be viewed by clicking on the following link: http://www.timber-trails.org/. He also says the area closed around 1979.

OTHER MEMORIES

C. Hollander: I did want to make a quick comment on the Timber Trails ski club in Sherman, CT. I grew up in the 70s down the road and remember seeing the lift from the road but it was never operational.

A. Varner: Spent summers and occasional weekends during winter at Timber Trails from 1946 to 1950, don't remember the ski tow ever in operation. Durward Kirby was a guest at the Timber Trails Inn,  built a house on Lake Mauweehu, further north on Route 37.  Jack Paar actually spent a summer or two at Timber Trails . . .rented a house.

Anybody else remember this one?
