Vail
February 21st, 2001

After driving in the snow this morning, we made it to Vail. What a place! Of course, we already knew it was the largest ski resort on the continent...how true that was. I've never seen such a huge place!

8-10" of unforecasted powder made skiing great!

Here's a view of the town village, looking up to just a fraction of the slopes.

We met up with Dave Vallaincourt, who has been a NELSAP contributor. We headed into the back bowls, and rode the Orient Express lift. We zipped into Shangri-La, a gladed expert run which was perfect! One of the best runs ever. After that, headed into Blue Sky Basin, pictured in the background in this photo taken from the Genghis Khan run in the back bowls.
Here's Chris on Genghis Khan.
Here's Betsy on the same run. After Blue Sky, we hit lunch in the Two Elk Lodge (the one burned in the arson attack a few years ago).

The rest of the afternoon, we took it easy...but still hit gladed runs and bump runs across the mountain. We only saw a tiny bit of this huge resort.

Definitely would go back to this place.
