Heidelburg
Tow
New London, NH
Before 1938-1939
According to the 1938-1939 Ski NH guidebook, a 700' rope tow served a novice slope on the north side of Main Street. The slope was floodlighted for night skiing, making it one of the first night skiing areas in the state. The area apparently lasted one more year, until 1939 (The Skier's Guide to New England and Skiing in the East-Ski Trails and How to Get There) before becoming just an open slope. Later guidebooks from the 1940's mention the New London Slopes ski area, and Heidelburg as a hike up and ski down place, so I'm fairly certain the two are not the same area.
