In 1949, an 800 foot tow operated on White Mountain in Pomfret Landing. There was an open slope available for beginners, as an active ski school provided lessons. Lessons for experts and intermediates were also available. Like many CT rope tow areas of its time, it was only open during weekends.
Christian DaBica
remembers this ski area:
The town I grew up
in was Pomfret, where White Mountain was located. We used to go mountain
biking there and the last time I went through (again, many years ago) the
poles and wheels for the rope tows were still there.
Anybody else remember this one?
