The Silver Streak Ski Area opened in Winsted sometime in the 1940's. It changed its name to Laurel Hill around 1948, give or take a year. Located 1 mile east of Winsted, off Rte. 44, Laurel Hill offered skiing on a 1300 foot rope tow with a 400 foot vertical drop in 1949. A 1/3 mile trail highlighted the skiing at this area. By 1952, the area had added a rope tow. Anybody know what happened after that year?

One NELSAP reader remembers this area:
Anne Coloma: My father was one of the guys that ran it from 1949-sometime after 1950. There problem was that the hill's exposure to the sun making poor snow conditions. They had the use of a farmer's hill with the agreement to split any profits with the farmer-Mr. Holcomb. There never were any profits
